Before you know their benefits, antioxidant supplements are first and foremost known by everyone to have the potential in treating and preventing diseases such as cancer, heart disease, arthritis, skin ailments and strokes. They are created from what scientists understand of antioxidants, which are natural organic substances including vitamins, carotenoids and others.

By using antioxidant supplements, you can prevent free radical buildup in your body. The antioxidant release from these supplements will put a stop to any free radicals oxidizing into carcinogens. This gives new meaning to the phrase prevention is better than cure.

You can get antioxidant supplements either off the shelf from pharmacies or nutritional health stores, or you can try to get them through all natural means such as from fruits and vegetables, which have a high content of carotenoids. One famous form of carotenoids is beta-carotene and you can get a lot of that from carrots, for example.

Many scientific tests and studies have been conducted to determine the health benefits of antioxidant supplements. Heart disease and stroke sufferers, and smokers, have all been shown to face lower risks of heart diseases and lung cancer when they have higher carotenoid levels. Popular health supplements like Vitamin C are also good prevention for cancer and other common health problems like the flu.
