Do Antioxidant Supplements Really Make You Younger?

Antioxidant supplements and the debate on whether they lead to a younger you with more energy and vitality has been going on for years. As usual with any such topic, there are advocates and there are naysayers. So do we really know if antioxidant supplements work to make you younger?

First of all, we know for sure that free radicals make us age. In terms of physical appearance such as our skin losing its elasticity, and our internal bodily functions which become less efficient, leading to buildup of waste materials and toxins which then make us older indirectly. We also know that antioxidants do prevent and neutralize the effects of free radicals.

So does this not mean that antioxidant supplements can provide the necessary amount of antioxidants to stop free radicals? Would this not lead to a healthier and more vitalized you? The answer seems obvious although in truth, we cannot come to this conclusion easily.

Do we need antioxidant supplements to power this process of destroying the free radicals that build up in our bodies? As with all human beings, we know that we are liable to excesses such as the consumption of unhealthy foods and the stress of pollution from the environment. Bad habits such as sleeping little also put us in conditions that promote the buildup of free radicals.

Therefore are we not experiencing continuing and increasing amount of free radicals in our bodies everyday? This might signal a need for more antioxidants which can only be provided with antioxidant supplements, unless you choose to eat huge amounts of fruits, vegetables and meats that provide quality antioxidants. I think you might perhaps die from overeating before free radicals leave your body diseased.

So the question remains to this day, and is very subjective and a firm conclusion has yet to be arrived at. Are antioxidant supplements the perfect solution to anti-aging? Can they make you younger? Do antioxidants really provide the best answer to prevention and destruction of free radicals which could be the main agents of old age and disease?
